Royal Avebe invests in innovation

InnovationNewsMonday, 31 Jan 2022

Royal Avebe aims to grow responsibly and sustainably. To get the most out of the potato, we invest heavily in innovation and creating market value. Now that new equipment, including a spray dryer, has arrived, more research can be conducted on using ingredients from the potato.

For Avebe, sustainable and responsible growth means growing in value rather than volume. More value is inseparably linked with innovation. Over the past four years, we have invested in new equipment for process development and to define specific (new) product properties.

Spray drying is a technology that has been developing rapidly in recent years. This technology enables Avebe to respond even better to the growing demand for plant-based products. As well as developing new products, applications and processes, a big step has been taken towards gaining knowledge of the powder properties important to customer applications. The new spray dryer enables us to conduct even more research at our Innovation Centre on new product development based on the ingredients from the starch potato.

Plant-based

“These recent investments show we are fully committed to the plant-based market. We develop high-quality ingredients and applications that facilitate the transition from animal to plant-based. And that is a development we’re proud of,” says Managing Director Innovations Gerard ten Bolscher.

These investments have been made with support from the EAFRD “European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe is investing in its countryside”. Read more about the agricultural fund here.
